Tests run on Sauce Labs can stream video, but with some limitations. We’ve found some customer use-cases are successful and others are not, so it's important to try out tests that use video streaming in advance, confirm they work, and know about these limitations. The VMs provided for POC and free-trial accounts are identical to those provided to subscribed or invoiced accounts, so any tests done in advance will give an accurate picture of real usage.
What Won't Work
Video streaming will not work at all - meaning the streaming will not even begin - with some combinations of video files/OS/browser. Some cases known not to work:
|File Type||Operating System||Browser|
|.mp4||OS X 10.11||Safari|
|HLS Video / HTML5||iOS||Safari|
|HLS Video / HTML5||OS X||Safari|
This is not a complete list, and some other combinations may also fail to play. As a very rough estimate, we expect 10% to 30% of possible combinations not to play. Sauce Labs is not actively working to fix individual combinations that do not work. There are long term plans to redesign how video streaming functions on our service, which should make many more combinations work, but these are not on the road map as of March 2017. We will be sure to announce when our re-engineered video streaming functionality is available.
